Questions

What is the resistor used for and why? I assume this is for the tachometer signal coming ffrom the GM ECM. Can you let me know what type of signal AutoMeter receives? I am using the Designer Black II series with a 2015 LS3 and Gm Perf controller

Asked by: Josh T
Hi Josh, thank you so much for contacting us. The resistor is included to be used as a "pullup", as is sometimes necessary, particularly with ECMs that aren't running the stock software. It's detailed in the instructions, but essentially, the amplitude of the square wave generated by the LS computer is sometimes diminished and needs to be pulled up to a level that can be read. AutoMeter tachometers are designed to read a square wave pattern and are comfortable even as low as 5v (and sometimes more). The most common types of tach signals in the world are a 12v square wave. Hope this helps!

I need a coolant temperature sensor for a LS 1 engine that is compatible with the original 1960 Corvette temperature gauge. Do have one for this application? Thanks John

Asked by: Jem1
Hi John, thank you so much for contacting us. Unfortunately, I am unaware of anyone that makes a such a sending unit. Our senders are designed for use with our gauges. You might be able to use your original Corvette sender in one of our radiator hose adapters: https://www.autometer.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=radiator+adapter#1&profile=products Otherwise you'd need to drill and tap the cylinder head on your engine to fit that OE sender. Hope this helps!

Is one of these fittings for the oil pressure sending unit? 16mm x 1.50

Asked by: Randy G
Hi Randy, thank you so much for the question. Yes, the larger adapter is the M16 x 1.5 adapter that we sell separately as model 2268. This would adapter our 1/8" NPT oil pressure sender or line to the factory LS oil pressure port.

What 2 5/8 water temp gauge can be used with this kit to work on my 5.3? And what 2 1/16 water temp gauge also ??  Im not sure which size I want yet.

Asked by: Shaun
Hi Shaun, thank you for connecting with us. This kit is actually compatible with all short sweep and full sweep electric Auto Meter gauges. Full sweep gauge senders will fit directly into the metric adapter, while short sweep gauges will use the shallow depth sender included in the LS Install Kit.

Are these for Mechanical or Electric gauges adaptors?

Asked by: Jesus
Hi Jesus. Thank you for the question. These adapters will work with either mechanical or electric pressure, but not temperature. They will work with an electric temperature, but there are still limitations on the smaller M12 x 1.5 adapter. It will not accept our standard 2258 electric temp sender, but will accept the 2259 shallow depth sender.

This is fit for Transmission and Transfer Case Oil Temperature?

Asked by: Cesar Ivan
Hi Cesar, thank you so much for contacting us. This kit is designed to allow for easy installation of tachometers, electronic water temperature and oil pressure gauges on GM LS derived engines. I don't believe you'll be able to use the kit on a transmission or transfer case. With that said, the 2259 temperature sending unit that is included with this kit is ideal for transmission or transfer case temps when a test port is available on the case. Hope this helps!
