QUESTIONS:
how long is the temp sender lead off the back of the gauge ,
This is an electric gauge so you can make the wire as long as you need to between the sensor and gauge head.

does it come with a sending unit ? what type will I need , going into an mg midget .
This will come with P/N: 2258 and the only thing you would need to supply would be the wiring.

Q: Regarding the 2258 sensor. I get that this is a NTC thermistor. As temp rises the resistance falls. I measured the resitance at room temp and found it to be 2250 ohms. I see some thermistors advertised as 10k sensors. Is the 2258 a 2.25K sensor?
https://www.autometer.com/sensor_specs this will be able to let you know the specs for our sensors. The 2258 is a 1123-20 ohm range. 2250 does sounds about right for room temperature.

Why not have oil temp option, only water temp
Thank you for your question. Due to the unique font used on this series, it uses its own screen for the dial face. Creating a new screen is significantly more expensive than one might expect, due to tooling and production costs. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have an oil temp screen available for this series. You could use the water temp gauge for oil temp, it will just say Water temp on the dial face.

what is air core ? if its mechanical why doesn't it say that
Thank you for reaching out to us. The 1737 is considered a short sweep electric. Air-Core is the type of electronic meter movement that floats freely and is not controlled by a physical spring. The mechanical option in our Old Tyme Black series is model 1733 - https://www.autometer.com/2-water-temp-120-240-f-mech-old-tyme-black.html
