does the tester check alternator output and starter draw?

Thank you for your question. No this unit cannot test alternator output or starter draw. The BVA-300 and BVA-350 would be the two model handheld testers we offer that are capable of testing alternator output and starter draw.

I have a auto meter BVA-300. How do I determine the batterie's temperature? The meter ask for the battery temperature when performing the battery test.

Thank you for your inquiry. When using the BVA-300, you simply estimate and enter ambient temperature. So for example if the battery is still in the vehicle, and it has been sitting outside in 32 degree weather, that is the temperature you would enter.

Hi ..we use numerous Odessey PC1800-FT AGM (CCA 1300), 214 Ah batteries in our broadcast vehicles. Which of your testers would give us a reasonable idea of general condition, life remaining etc.?

Hi Dave, thank you for the question. The SB-300 will provide the tests you're looking for. If you're looking to test starter draw or alternators, then you'd want to look at other models like the BVA-300.

Is the SB 300 capable of testing 6 and 8 volt batteries?

Hi there, thank you so much for the question. The SB-300 is for 6V and 12V batteries only and will not test 8V batteries. There is nothing we offer that will test 8V batteries.

Does the SB-300 make a true conductance measurement of Reserve Capacity (RC)? If so, what are the thresholds for good (e.g. 80%+), weak (40-70%) and replace (<40%)? Between 2 batteries with 55 and 110 minutes RC, how does it determine capacity?

Hi there, thank you so much for the question. The SB-300 does not actually do a Reserve Capacity Test. Most everything out there that does a Reserve Capacity test uses the conductance method, which we've found is not necessarily a consistently accurate test.
