Have a Mallory Supermag with external coil. Will this allow me to use a tach?

Asked by: Dollar Devil
Thank you for your inquiry. The 9118 will allow our standard ignition tachometers to work with Mallory Mags with external coil.

I have a mag 44 with a msd grid am getting the tach signal from the mag, I do not have a crank trigger. The signal is not totally correct, the rpm operated shifter always shifts @ couple thousand rpm off. Can you suggest?

What magneto signal converter should I use with a vertex magneto (internal coil )

Asked by: Dan22
Thank you for your question. We do not make a signal converter for internal coil magnetos, our's only work with external coil magnetos. We do have a company we work with that makes caps for your magneto that you can use with our gauges. Here is a link to their webpage: https://fuelinjectionent.myshopify.com/

Hi there, I am planning to put a tacho on my classic bike whch has a Lucas magneto, would this convert work with this magneto? My bike is already 12 volts. Thanks

Asked by: Mikej
Hi Mike, thank you for contacting us. Sorry for the bad news, but the 9118 Mag Adapter is compatible only with external coil magnetos like the Mallory Super Mag. Unfortunately, without an ignition coil, we won't have any compatible tachometers to offer.

Is it possible to use this to convert a signal from a classic outboard motor magneto-type ignition system? Specifically I am looking at a 1958 35 HP Johnson outboard motor.

Asked by: Classic Boat Motor Owner
GREAT Question, I was also looking at the AquaGuide Tach model 676,685,690,699 and 2029 for the mag CD ignition in the Evinrude/Johnson outboards are getting so hard to find on eBay. I was also hoping this would work. back to looking around still.

Purchased 9118 mag signal converter. I have vertex internal mag no external coil magneto. Will this work and convert mag pulse to electronic tach?

Asked by: Maxdudy
Hi there, thank you so much for connecting with us. Many years ago we did list the internal coil mag as compatible with this 9118 adapter, but due to very mixed results, we had to officially drop the internal coil mag from the compatibility list. It's possible that you may have some success, but we can make no guarantees. There was never a concern over damage, but more of an erratic, electronic noise issue on the tachometer.
