How can I extend the thermocouple on my pyrometer/EGT?

The extension wire is an integral part of the pyrometer calibration. By standard means, it may not be shortened or lengthened without effecting the gauge calibration. However, AutoMeter has developed a thermocouple probe extension module for applications that require a longer thermocouple wire due to an increased distance between the thermocouple and the gauge.

Using this handy reference, you can clearly visually identify the gauge you wish to extend and what expansion module you may use to accomplish this task.

The incandescently lit gauge that uses and air core meter movement can be identified by the light bulb connector at the top, red and black wires at the bottom, and two studs for the thermocouple attachment near the center. To extend this type of gauge, use AutoMeter 5256 extension module.

The incandescently lit gauge that uses a digital stepper motor can be identified by the light bulb connector at the top and a 10 pin black connector at the bottom. The harness that includes the power, ground, and thermocouple leads plugs into this connector. The two studs are not used on this model. To extend this type of gauge, use AutoMeter 5257 extension module.

The LED lit gauge that uses a digital stepper motor can be identified by the 10 pin black connector at the bottom. The harness that includes the power, ground, lighting power, and thermocouple leads plugs into this connector. At this time, AutoMeter does not offer an extension module.
