Hooking up a tach on a diesel can be challenging due to the lack of ignition system. Solutions up to this point have been complicated and temperamental. AutoMeter makes the process incredibly easy and affordable with this tachometer that utilizes an inductive pick-up. Simply attach the included pickup to the outside of the alternator and calibrate with a rotary dial on the back of the tach. It will work just about any engine with a crank driven alternator, not limited to only diesel applications.

Referring to Cam's question and Joseph's answer. What size hole would the tach fit in for mounting in a dash? Can the optional bezels be used to compensate for a larger hole size? Are there any drawings of the tach and bezels that show diameters? Hi Johnny, thank you so much for contacting us. Unfortunately, as this tach was never intended for in dash mounting and lacks any provisions necessary to do so, we can't provide direct support on how to do it. There is no "right way" to accomplish this and it is not a recommended or intended application. If you are uncomfortable with fabrication work it would be best to seek the assistance of a professional technician. Hello, can the gauge be mounted in a gauge hole of adequate size or does it have to bolted down?Hi Cam, thank you so much for contacting us. While there are no provisions for in-dash mounting of this tach, it certainly could be done with a little creativity. I've personally used some weatherstripping and a hose clamp to accomplish this.
